Basics of Buddhism

This series is an overview of Buddhism. In these 6 once a week lessons on the basics of Buddhism we will explore:

Week 1: The history and parable of the Buddha’s life story, the different schools of Buddhism- Theravadin, Zen, Pure Land and Tibetan traditions- and some of their teachers past and future.

Week 2: Buddhist foundation-the four noble truths-the core of all Buddhist traditions.

Week 3: Buddhist ethics and means-the 10 perfections-giving, morality, forbearance, zeal, meditation, wisdom, compassion, intention, spiritual power, knowledge and the five precepts.

Week 4: Buddhist meditation-different purposes and applications-from more calm in everyday life to awakening, from visualization to just sitting.

Week 5: Buddhist psychology is complex and deep. We will touch upon the Abhidhamma and the three kayas-.

Week 6: Women in Buddhism-from the first Buddhist nuns to today’s nuns and lay women.
