Come Meditate with Us
Hello from my shelter in place abode to yours. We are now entering our second month of sheltering in place and I imagine the you have gone through many different emotions and states of mind, as have I. I hope that you have found activities that are sustaining you and friends to connect with. It’s so important to find creative ways to share ourselves with others at this time.
One of the ways I’m sharing with others is through an online meditation group that gathers Monday through Friday, once in the morning and once in the evening. I frankly did not know how well meditating online would work. So much of the power of group meditation centers around the feeling in the room, the sound of the bell and the connection between one another in a visceral way. I wondered whether people would walk away from an online meditation feeling connected to themselves and the group. It turns out they do! Even online we feel the presence of one another as we meditate, enjoy the sound of the bell and develop real connections.
Meditation is particularly valuable during this time of self-isolation because it nurtures a deep connection with our inner self and develops intimacy with the present moment. In meditation we listen deeply, without judgement, to our life in the moment. When we meditate we take a break from living in the past or projecting into the present and abide where we are. During uncertain times like these it is helpful to take a deep breath and be grateful for this moment.
Meditation is simple, but it’s not easy. It’s hard to get ourselves to the cushion, or seat, alone and it’s challenging to stay on track during meditation as our mind wanders hither and yon. It helps to have the support of a group. We are social animals and, although it is wise to practice physical distancing at this time, we do not need to socially distance. We can connect in a warm- hearted way as we support one another through the roller coaster of ever- changing conditions. I invite you to join us in meditation weekdays at 9AM PST and 5:30PM PST. We’ll save you a seat!
